10 dead after the passage of Tropical Storm Hanna in Haiti
It addresses the Bahamas, where they are already experiencing heavy rains
At least ten people have died in Gonaives, northern Haiti, due to flooding caused by rains that leaves in its wake Tropical Storm Hanna, who could become a hurricane again, has today informed the police. These deaths are in addition to the 76 that left Gustav on its way through the impoverished country.
The coastal city of Gonaives is completely flooded, according to testimony issued by local radio stations, and in some points the water level reaches three metres high, while in other places stands at 50 centimetres.
Hanna, who this morning has weakened from Category 1 hurricane to tropical storm, is addressed to the Bahamas, but the National Hurricane Center (CNH) U.S. predicts that its weakening would be short-lived and that could become a hurricane again in the next few hours. We are witnessing heavy rains in the archipelago bahamense.
According to the latest bulletin from the centre, at 14.00 hours mainland, Hanna recorded winds of up to 110 kilometres per hour and is "very near Great Inagua island and about 625 kilometers southeast of Nassau (Bahamas)."
This hurricane season in Atlanta is proving to be very active. The CNH has informed today of the birth of a new depression in the ocean east of Atlanta, south of the Cape Verde islands, which are expected to become tropical storm in the next few hours.
Depression, to be known as Tropical Storm Josephine when their maximum sustained winds reach 64 miles per hour, was located about 270 miles southeast of the Cape Verde islands this afternoon, according to CNH, based in Miami.
