Senator Charles Schumer introduced a bill last week to the school district of the city to change the current buses hybrid vehicles.

Schumer released the report during a visit to PS 234 in Manhattan, and said that the high cost of gasoline also impacting schools.

According to the report, the City will spend more than $ 50 million to operate its 6400 school buses. Schumer also wants the government to help with some of the funds to purchase a fleet of hybrid buses.

"If New York is changing its entire fleet of buses to regular hybrids, the city could save $ 3300 per year per bus, removing fuel costs, which continues to grow as we have seen," said Schumer.

The Schumer bill would give federal tax credit for each hybrid bus purchasing the school district.
