Her condition, Orthorexia Nervosa (obsession with healthy eating), described by Steven Bratman in 1997, although not officially recognized, is getting increasing attention.

Thrilled to see that 20/20 aired an extensive story on orthorexia, and crushed because I missed it. I'd actually talked to one of the producers of this episode to share my personal story of orthorexia and recovery.

In fact, I believe some of them have actually contracted a novel eating disorder for which I have coined the name "orthorexia nervosa." The term uses "ortho," meaning straight, correct, and true, to modify "anorexia nervosa.
