The authorities of southern Texas today began the partial evacuation and ordered the mobilization of thousands of National Guard members to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Ike.
The television network CNN noted that people in low-lying areas in Houston were moved to safe places fearing floods.
According chain news, at least eight counties in the territory began evacuations, including Victoria, Harris, Brazoria and Matagorda.
The forecasts estimate that Ike paid to Texas on the island of Galveston, with category four on the Saffir-Simpson scale (of a maximum of five).
Nearly one million people live in the coastal region of the counties of Galveston and Corpus Christi.
The National Hurricane Center issued warnings to neighboring states like Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana by the atmospheric phenomenon.
Faced with this situation, the governor of Texas, Rick Perry, ordered the mobilization of seven thousand 500 National Guard members.
The CNN said that some 350 thousand buses and ambulances were deployed to support evacuations, as well as several military aircraft.
It was also implemented numerous measures to protect oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and the 26 refineries in Texas.
