The U.S. shield is the sole target Russian missiles, says Lavrov
The U.S. missile shield, whose elements will be installed in Poland and the Czech Republic, whose sole target Russian missiles, said on Thursday the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov, visiting Warsaw.

"A simple analysis shows that a military base for the European antimissile defense overall U.S. has not and will not for many years, another white Russian missiles," said Lavrov in an article published on Thursday in the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza .

Poland agreed in August, in full Georgian crisis, the installation on its territory before 2012 a U.S. base with ten interceptors capable of destroying any flight in long-range ballistic missiles.

This facility will be completed with the installation of a powerful radar in the Czech Republic. According to Washington, the objective of this shield is to avoid a possible threat from countries like Iran.

"Any impartial expert understands that the missiles Iran does not pose a threat to Europe and even less for the United States," said Lavrov.

Moscow, however, "leaves the door open for serious negotiations, if the United States and Poland are genuinely interested in ensuring that European anti-missile base will not be directed against Russia," he said.

Until now, Washington and Warsaw have suggested the Russians to inspect the base, whose installation is expected in northern Poland, near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

Moscow called on his party a permanent presence of Russian inspectors in the Czech and Polish facilities, which refused Prague and Warsaw, who had to Soviet troops stationed on its territory until the early 1990.
